The AgriShift® PLE is made especially for egg layer and breeder operations. It features full spectrum output with enhanced luminous power in red wavelengths compared to incandescent, CFL, HPS, and standard LED lamps. This unique spectral design was created based on lighting research showing improved health, welfare, and reproductive activity of the hens. The lamp is designed to dim smoothly from 100-2% and can mimic sunset and sunrise by shifting its color spectrum to all red at low output levels. In addition, the dimming to on or off and the shift to the red spectrum allows up to an hour of extra melatonin production per day, potentially leading to better overall egg quality. The dimming capability of thee lamps will allow growers to easily meet UEP guidelines for humane lighting by dimming them gradually to off. Most breeder facilities use 100-150W high-pressure sodium lamps. These lamps provide a substantial amount of light, but the spectral content is focused in the yellow and red spectrum with very little calming blue. They are not dimmable so cannot simulate sunrise and sunset. Since there is typically one row of lamps down the center of the barn, there is substantial risk that the sides of the barns are inadequately illuminated, or that significant shadows occur outside of the nest boxes. Both of these issues may lead to significant floor egg production. Using more, but lower wattage poultry-spectrum lamps allows the breeder manager to place his lamps properly in order to reduce shadows and prevent floor-laying activity. Many layer facilities have switched to CFLs or bi-pin 9 to 23 watt fluorescent lamps over the past several years. The new Dim-to-Red PLE can replace these lamps in both retrofit and new construction applications and will last 5 to 10 times longer than a typical CFL. Replacing CFL lamps also eliminates the time and cost of proper disposal of those mercury-containing products. The PLE uses approximately 12 watts of energy to provide approximately 700 lumens adjusted for poultry spectral sensitivity. It is available in an E26/27 screw-in base, a hard-wire connection, and conduit connection.
