MINNESOTA LED LIGHTING COMPANY MAKING BIG IMPACT IN POULTRY

PLYMOUTH, River Center in downtown St. Paul was host to the Midwest Poultry Federation Convention last week and, not unlike other trade shows, was the temporary showroom for recognizable products from well-known companies in the industry – with a notable exception. Amongst the expected layer cages, egg sorters, farm implements, feeds, and pharmaceuticals at this year’s show was a new product from a company making its debut, and a very big impression.

The company, Once Innovations (ONCE) of Plymouth, introduced their new AgriShift™ LED Poultry Light to very interested attendees. Attendees who quickly learned this wasn’t just another LED light someone decided farmers would buy.

“This is a highly energy efficient LED light made specifically for poultry producers”, said Zdenko Grajcar, CEO of ONCE. “More than just a way to save on electrical costs, which can be staggering for poultry farmers, the AgriShift LED Poultry Light was designed to enhance flock performance.”

Poultry growers visiting the ONCE exhibitor space studied a series of spectral response graphs clearly showing the difference between human and domestic fowl vision. It dramatically pointed out that birds have a broader visible light spectrum and far greater sensitivity to certain wavelengths on the spectrum. The importance of that became clear when viewing the light wavelength differences between incandescent, fluorescent, and AgriShift Poultry Lights. The AgriShift Poultry Lights clearly take advantage of bird’s sensitivity to specific wavelengths and provide much higher relative light intensity than counterparts.

The AgriShift Poultry Light incorporates ONCE proprietary AC technology developed by Grajcar, a Slovakian Physicist and well-known LED lighting pioneer. “The poultry business is extremely sophisticated,” explained Grajcar. “Our job is more about educating than selling. Poultry producers are smart and savvy business people. When they understand the physics of light, the physiology of how birds see light, and the significant differences in light wavelengths from different light sources, they see how the AgriShift Poultry Light can be a tremendous asset to their operation.”
