ONCE INNOVATIONS NAMES LONG TIME POULTRY LIGHT RESEARCHER TO ADVISORY BOARD

PLYMOUTH, MN U.S.A. – Roger Lien, Associate Professor of poultry science at Auburn University’s College of Agriculture, has joined LED lighting development and manufacturing company, Once Innovations (ONCE), as a member of its advisory board. Dr. Lien will assist ONCE in the ongoing development, testing and research of poultry specific LED-based lighting.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Lien on our R&D team,” said Zdenko Grajcar, ONCE CTO. “He will be invaluable in helping us further understand the effects of lighting intensity, schedule, and color on the behavior of poultry. Our ultimate goal is to help poultry producers run more energy efficient operations and improve flock health and performance. Dr. Lien will help us provide operators with education and advice based on expertise, experience, case studies, and research.”

Dr. Lien has worked on the effects of light on poultry since the 1980’s. He was named one of the nation’s top university poultry science professors by receiving the Poultry Science Association’s (PSA) teaching award for his work in 2004. The PSA is a professional organization of educators, scientists, extension specialists, administrators and producers in the poultry industry. He has also been awarded the Auburn Alumni Association Teaching Excellence Award and the Auburn University College of Agriculture Dean’s Award for Advising Excellence.

Currently, Dr. Lien’s research program is focused on improving broiler management conditions to minimize physiological stress and diseases, and provide for broiler welfare while optimizing live performance and desirable meat yield. He has conducted numerous research trials investigating the effects of photoperiod and light intensity on the live and processing performance, and welfare of broilers, breeders and turkeys.
